SPU Khon Kaen Students Empower Cleft Care with English Learning Games
A cross-sector outreach brings confidence, language skills, and inclusive community support to children with cleft lip and palate in Khon Kaen.
Sripatum University (SPU) Khon Kaen’s Business English Communication (EBC) program joined Tawan Chai Foundation, Khon Kaen University Faculty of Medicine, and the Provincial Administrative Organization to deliver “Bright Smiles: EBC Creates.” On 24 August 2024, EBC lecturers and students ran playful, low‑stress English learning stations—helping children with cleft lip and palate build voice, confidence, and social bonds while families accessed comprehensive clinical care. The initiative advances SDG 3 through community health outreach (3.3.2), strengthens equitable learning via off‑campus education (4.3.4), and deepens partnerships with regional NGOs and government (17.2.1).
By designing inclusive activities for children with speech and hearing challenges, the team actively reduces inequalities (10.6.7) and ensures girls and boys benefit equally (5.3.4). Working alongside local authorities embeds the project in sustainable community systems (11.4.7). Because many families of children with congenital conditions face economic stress, the effort links to poverty alleviation by improving access to health and learning (1.1.1, 1.3.3).
